Salt Stronghold

Waukesha County Salt Storage Building

BACKGROUND

Ensuring road safety during Wisconsin's winters involves a comprehensive undertaking that demands considerable resources and infrastructure. Waukesha County, with its expansive road network catering to a sizable population, faces the challenge of maintaining miles of thoroughfares free from the hazards of ice and snow. They needed to expand part of their Department of Public Works (DPW) yard to efficiently address the demands posed by winter weather conditions and a growing community.

Aproach

J.H. Hassinger collaborated with Butyne Peterson from Sheboygan to enhance the Waukesha County Department of Public Works (DPW) facility by constructing a 280-foot by 80-foot salt shed and brine building. J.H. Hassinger's self-perform work included the creation of substantial footings, the erection of 16-foot-tall walls, and building the robust mass timber structure.
