Better for the Bovines

Hoofstock Quarantine Building

BACKGROUND

The Milwaukee County Zoo found itself in need of a new facility, specifically designed as a barn-type building, to serve as a dedicated space for the housing of sick animals. The primary purpose of this structure was to establish an effective quarantine area, ensuring that animals undergoing treatment could be isolated from the rest of the zoo's population until they had successfully recovered and were deemed healthy. The construction of this specialized building aimed to enhance the zoo's ability to provide optimal care for sick animals while minimizing the risk of spreading illnesses to other inhabitants within the facility.

Aproach

J. H. Hassinger was chosen by the Milwaukee County Zoo to build the new Hoofstock Quarantine Building. This recently completed structure, spanning an area of 1325 square feet, was designed in the pole-barn style, featuring four individual private stalls. The building showcased sliding steel barn doors for each stall, robust concrete block walls, and a resilient steel grid ceiling system, meticulously crafted to cater to animals of all sizes.
